INYO COUNTY ANNOUNCES AN OPEN RECRUITMENT FOR:

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SPECIALIST

Lone Pine, CA, with travel to other County communities to provide services

SALARY:

Range PT853 $14.17-17.25/hour
Up to 12 hours per week - No County benefits)

DEFINITION : To provide a range of paraprofessional-type services under the direction of other staff; such services may include direct client services, paper work processing, input of data into a computer, participating in health fairs, acting as a medical aide in the health clinic, explaining and enrolling clients into programs, or other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES : Acts as staff to the department, attending meetings, recording minutes. Assists in developing needs and assets assessments, composes letters, completes reports, collates and synthesizes data. Provides in-person and telephone client contact and information dissemination, interfaces with a wide variety of professionals and members of the public in a health clinic setting; provides clerical case management by the entry of client information into computer data base and forwards letters to families regarding case notification; performs client assessment interviews and identifies and facilitates appropriate services available to client based on financial eligibility and client needs; provides medical assistance to Nurse Practitioner, Health Officer, and Public Health Nurse with patient case and treatment. Maintains files, listings, and records; acts as departmental representative on certain task forces or as staff at health fairs and other public outreach events; routinely sends and receives e-mail in designated program; provides general assistance as needed to other team members. Provides translation services to Spanish-speaking clients and creates written communications in Spanish as needed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience : High school graduate or equivalent with two years experience performing para-professional-type duties or clerical duties in an office setting; OR education beyond high school may be substituted for one year of the required experience on the basis of one year of full-time education equivalent to one year of experience. Experience in a health clinic environment preferred.Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred.

Knowledge of : Appropriate professional interpersonal skills; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; IBM-compatible computers and software; some Internet familiarity; media as a communication tool.

Ability to : Compose basic business letters; provide professional telephone and in-person responses to members of the public; operate office equipment such as photocopy machine, facsimile machine, typewriter, computer; make public presentations occasionally; learn the operation of lab equipment and associated quality assurance procedure; balance and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time; prepare accurate and timely reports; think quickly and respond appropriately to unexpected client behavior in the lobby; balance and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time; work cooperatively with other clerical, fiscal, and professional staff; perform detailed procedures accurately and timely; work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.

Special requirements : Must possess a valid California Driver’s License; must be willing to obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and Hepatitis B and rubella vaccination; must successfully complete pre-employment background check and physical examination, including drug screen.

SELECTION : Selection procedures will be determined by the number and qualifications of applicants, and may include a qualification screening, written examination, and oral examination.

Additionally, the County of Inyo has work sites located in Mono County. Positions are assigned to a work site based upon the needs of the County. Positions may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another work site as deemed necessary by the Department Head.
